About Wilton Jack
Wilton is an Australian Artist living in New York City.
His work seeks to capture moments in the world as he perceives them, showcasing the beauty of everyday life.
Inspired to paint everyday scenes using paint oil on canvas as a medium, his work includes a broad range of subjects including portraits, landscapes, still lifes and cityscapes, interpreted based on his unique view of the world. When designing a new composition, he often thinks of Tim O’Brien’s short story, ‘How to Tell a True War Story’. It His story beautifully and delicately weighs the purpose of a story (in this case a war story) and what it can tell us about morality and life, and it debates the nature of truth; and if it’s a necessary condition for morality.
He tells a story of a platoon and a grenade.
“That is a true story that never happened.”
Wilton’s paintings draw on realism, but with fictionalized scenes and places: authentic narratives that may never have transpired.
